Recently I read a blog, on one of those huge wedding sites, about traditional makeup vs. airbrush makeup for a bride. I was surprised to read that the author was not biased and made some great points for both applications. I continued to read the comments and the registered brides were thankful for the help while some “anonymous” comments went on to bash airbrush makeup (I’m guessing they don’t use airbrush on their clients). The main thing they were saying was that back in the day, Audrey Hepburn and Vintage Vogue didn’t use airbrush makeup. Here’s what they aren’t thinking…Audrey wasn’t photographed with a Hi-Def camera!

I feel that makeup techniques (and hairstyling) need to keep up with technology (especially those of us artist who work in the wedding and film industry). When a bride asks what is airbrush makeup and why do I need it, I’ll tell them honestly. It is up to them to decide if it is right for them and so far…100% are believers! Although it was a huge investment, to buy the airbrush and learn to use it, I find that I get better results and happier clients (and photographers). Here are some benefits to airbrush makeup:

I have a HUGE fan of DIY projects from sewing baby burp cloths to decorating for the holidays, but it is always good to know when you have talent and when you need to hire a professional to help!

If you’re going to give handcrafted favors, it is a good idea to do some trial work on the project until you get it.  Don’t wait until the week before your event to “practice”.   If you’re not very creative but you have some skills, search the internet for ideas or ask a crafty friend to help get some ideas flowing.

I like this cookie idea for favors,  I think I’m going to do them for Christmas to give to our neighbors and to my favorite vendors.  Once you master the technique, you can use them for any Holiday, Weddings or Thank You’s.  They are super simple (especially if you buy the cookies) and you can customize them however you’d like.  Simply stamp the cookie with food coloring, let dry and present them in nice treat bags tied up with ribbons.  You could do one cookie per bag or add a few.  I prefer curling ribbon or nice satin ribbon for a fancy bow.

Hello world!

After a lot of work…tons of ideas…and great designing…I am proud to announce the arrival of my baby, my updated website!  www.girlsandcurls.com

 girls and curls

I feel it represents who I am and it shows my work beautifully.  It’s modern but classic, youthful yet grown up.  I have spent the past few months working on every little detail from the colors to the photos and I am completely happy with the end product.  There are a few minor additions but those will come soon.
